As a Senior Scientist in Bread Wheat Improvement with CIMMYT’s Global Wheat Program, Leo made significant contributions to improving wheat productivity and resilience for farmers worldwide. Through collaborations with organizations such as the BGRI, he played a vital role in advancing knowledge-sharing, joint research, and capacity-building initiatives that strengthened global wheat improvement efforts.
Since joining CIMMYT in 2015, Leo dedicated his career to strengthening food security through wheat research. His work significantly enhanced breeding strategies, leading to more resilient and productive wheat varieties. Driven by a commitment to developing high-performing crops, he tackled complex challenges to improve yield stability, disease resistance, and adaptability to environmental pressures—making wheat breeding more robust and responsive to global agricultural needs.
