Zitong Yu, from China, is a postdoctoral research associate with Eduard Akhunov at Wheat Genetics Resource Center (WGRC) and Department of Plant Pathology in Kansas State University (KS, USA). Her current research program focuses on the development of strategies and tools for improving wheat grain yield and quality using the CRISPR-based high-throughput genome editing approaches. She received her Ph.D. from Murdoch University (MU) in Western Australia with research activities funded by Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC). At MU, she worked under the supervision of Wujun Ma at State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC) to study sulphur and nitrogen fertilization strategy for wheat grain quality improvement and the underlying mechanism.
Back to Award Page“The innovation and fast development of gene editing tools make previous challenges becoming feasible. The recognition from WIT award will broaden the awareness of the community that the high-throughput wheat genome editing is happening, which is a beautiful technology to help researchers with solving complex problems.”
